Eclectic Living

Hello-ideas.com

Now most of us who live the thrifty life style would have our homes come under the category of 'Eclectic' however others include 'Shabby Chic', 'Mid Century Modern' and 'Country Style'.

This here post is dedicated to Eclectic style.

Achieving an eclectic look in your home is very easy to do. The dictionary defines eclectic as 'deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources' and to achieve this style that is exactly what you must do. It doesnt matter what era your homewares are from, what colour or style. By mashing them all together (tastefully) you will achieve eclectic style! Now when I say tastefully I mean be sure not to have too much clutter and try to make sure that the room isnt too busy, if it is you will never be able to relax! So have a look at the images provided and see for  yourself.

What to do with that old ladder

Do you, your parents or their parents have an old wooden ladder hidden away in the shed? Stop hiding it and use some of these fantastic ideas to spruce up your home with a some what industrial/rustic look!

Ladders can look great on the wall, used as shelves or hangers. They can also look fab with your pot plants cascading down the rungs or maybe you have some spare planks of wood that you can place accross the rungs to form a make shift book case.

If you dont have a ladder then get hunting! You should be able to find one in salvage yards, antique stores, thrift stores or even on eBay or Gumtree. These wont be around forever as many have been left outside and the wood is deteriorating, so if you find one, hold on to it!

Upcycling with Scarfs

This is a project I have been meaning to do for some time but have never gotten arround to it. It is very simple, all you need to do is collect vintage silk scarfs (found in almost any thrift store here in Australia) and stitch them together, either by hand of machine. Now you must make sure that you have enough scarfs to fit the intended window, but this is a project that you can put down and pick up whenever you are ready to continue!

I can imagine this is any eclectic or bohemian style home or even in an industrial style home with super large windows, the scarfs so long that they drag on the floor a little, but really, your imagination is the limit! These curtains will do whatever you want them to do. If your aim is to bring a pop of colour into the room then make sure your chosen scarfs will do just that! If the style of your room is shabby chic then why not collect some floral scarfs to build up your chosen style? The choice is yours, the possibilities are almost endless.
